Bowhunting in Arizona

Biennial Award Recipients

-updates coming soon-

The Bowhunting in Arizona Committee recognizes that a variety of factors can and does affect antler, horn or skull growth, including uncontrollable climate variation affecting food supplies and quality, and that hunting management theories may change including hunt pressure, new hunt units being opened and various other events which may affect the harvest of a higher percentage of the best, mature males during particular periods of time. In order to document to some extent these variations, the Biennial Award was established to recognize these factors and award the best trophies taken during subsequent two year periods with the recognition they deserve for being the "state records", so to speak, for each two year period. The three largest trophies of each species collected during each of these two year periods are awarded their appropriate place in the current period's Biennial Awards and are recognized at a banquet which occurs the year following the close of each biennial period. The current biennial period recognizes those trophies taken and entered into the program from July 1st 2003 thru June 30th 2005.

The Biennial Awards are presented for animals taken during the applicable Biennial period which runs from July 1 of one year to June 30 two years later.  Quite often animals taken during a particular period are not recorded until well after the Biennial has ended.  Years ago the committee decided that the actual Biennial Awards would be given according to the applications received and approved up to the time that the Biennial Awards were ordered from the trophy manufacturer.  This has not been of any concern in the past.  Now however with this website we find that we have listed the Biennial Awards according to our current records but that as new applications are received the order of the Biennial Awards may change.  We intend to continue to show the current status of the Biennial Awards but those people that make the list at some point in time need to keep in mind that a bigger animal may come along and bump theirs off the list.  In one sense this can be viewed as a challenge to see how long a particular animal can stay on the list and / or maintain its position on the list.  If an animal you have entered makes it onto the list only to be bumped off at a later date feel fortunate that at least for a period of time it did make it onto the list.

The list below has been moved to "previous biennial awards" and new entries will be provided below in the near future.
